Modern White Las Vegas Wedding

If you love modern desert vibes, you are going to obsess over Michelle & Matthew’s dry lake bed wedding from Starry Eyed Events! The open landscape of the lake bed outside Las Vegas made for an epic ceremony location. No decor needed with these stunning vistas! Snapdragon Studios captured some gorgeous wind-swept portraits we are in love with. Afterwards, all the guests headed to MEET Las Vegas for a modern all white reception and tons of dancing and fun!

How did you meet?

My husband and I are actually high school sweethearts! I was waiting outside of school one day and he just randomly comes up to me and told me he’s been trying to gain up the courage to talk to me. He reminded me that we had a class together 3 years back and said there was just “something about you.” From that day forward, we talked every single day, falling more and more in love the more we got to know each other. The rest is history!

What is your proposal story?

My husband and I would do styled couple shoots together all the time and one day he mentioned how we were going to be doing yet another couples shoot. He told me to dress elegant as this was going to be a more “classy” shoot. So then there’s me being so over the top showing up with a white faux fur coat and a long hunter green dress. We show up to a beautiful location outside of the Venetian casino in Las Vegas and his cousin Kathy, a professional photographer, starts snapping photos of us for our “shoot.” I thought something was up when I laid my hand on his chest to pose and his heart was racing! In that same moment, he gets down on one knee and says something along the lines of “Michelle, I wanna spend the rest of my life with you.. Will you marry me?” I may have butchered that a bit as everything happened so fast and instead of really paying close attention to what he was saying, I was just waiting for him to finish his sentence so I could say yes already! After that, I turn around and to my surprise, our families are all standing behind us cheering with such joy! I loved how intimate it was.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.

Like many other girls out there, you already have somewhat of a vision or idea as to what you want your dream wedding to look like one day when the time comes. However, my husband surprisingly also had his ideas of what he wanted his wedding to look like. We had to go through each of our ideas and try to meet in the middle with both of our tastes. We both wanted it to be minimalist, yet elegant. We didn’t want it to be too classic and tried to really make it feel like “Michelle and Matthew’s wedding.” My dream was always to have an outdoor ceremony and reception. We searched almost everywhere in Vegas and none of the locations quite fit what we both wanted. After a while of searching, we found an all white venue and liked it because we could customize it to fit our needs. We did our ceremony at a different location in a desert area and that was pretty fun and crazy. We decided to go with an all white wedding with soft neutral tones.

Tell us about your attire choices.

As the bride, I wanted to feel really beautiful on my wedding day, yet still look like myself. I ended up doing my makeup myself! I love makeup and I know what looks best on my face. I’m so happy I did because it was really calming that I had a control over exactly how I was going to look on my big day. I wanted a vintage look for me so I ended up going with a long sleeve lace dress. I wore my hair down parted in the middle and my hairstylist did some awesome Hollywood glam waves on me with a bit of volume. I also wore a cathedral length veil with a blusher. My husband always loved the James Bond suit and tried looking for something similar. He ended up finding a midnight blue suit that really fit what he had envisioned. He paired his suit with a butterfly bowtie and some really edgy leather boots.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

I wanted to splurge on flowers so that they could be the main decorations of my wedding. I wanted it to be full of the aromas of beautiful flowers whenever people walked in. I love nature and flowers make me really happy. We also decided to splurge a bit on both of our wedding attires. You only get married once and we wanted to feel our absolute best. The main important thing we for sure wanted to spend a little extra with was our photographer. Your wedding pictures are probably one of the most important photos of your life so we really wanted to make sure we found a photographer that was going to capture our special day with the elements we wanted. Our photos turned out amazing!

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

My veil was actually something I customized. I searched all over Las Vegas for so long and could not find the veil I was looking for. Finally, I showed up to GreyBearl Bridal last minute and they told me I could get it customized to what I wanted. I wanted a cathedral length veil with a soft drop blusher and lace stitched onto the ends of the train. They ended up making me my dream veil. However, they didn’t incorporate the lace onto it because I wanted to add it myself with the help of my seamstress. I bought some lace at Hobby Lobby and my seamstress sewed it onto my veil just the way I wanted it. It really was the thing that made it all come together.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

Our favorite parts of our wedding day definitely had to be when we sneaked off after the ceremony to eat some McDonalds. My husband loves McDonalds so it made him happy to have both the loves of his life there with him (haha). We also did a mini photoshoot there to capture the moment and we fell in love with how the photos perfectly represented us in our natural habitat. Another great memory had to be when my husband surprised me by singing to me. It was the sweetest thing and you could tell he worked very hard for it to sound just right. Lastly, our sparkler exit was super fun. We kept running around while everyone cheered and celebrated our love!
